3. Further innovations

LED- or halogen Illumination, TTL micro flash without cable, using a microscope as macro stand, do-it-yourself magnification converter 2.5x, plastic moulds of cellular structures, large-volume optical cell for plancton microscopy, etc.

3.1. Video Microscopy using a Camcorder

The camcorder - microscope - adapter with a dispersing lens of -10 dpt (former patents DE 4300080 and DE 4402157) compensates the fixed objective in the tele range. It eliminates the need for a specialized microscope camera when a camcorder is available. The camcorder also eliminates the need for power supply and VCR which is favorable for outdoor microscopy. As a matter of fact, the following images were scanned as still images into a PC: eri.jpg, zwiebel.jpg and mundsch.jpg. Using intermediate rings, the above mentioned adapter can also be coupled to a SLR camera body as a negative projection lens. However, a CCD surveillance camera can be bought for a small amount of money (e.g. POLLIN Electronic, Pförring or PEARL, Buggingen) and converted for microscopy use by optionally unmounting the objective and placing the camera directly above the procjection lens (eyepiece or trinocular opening). Most images on this web page were made this way. Both methods can be used to print still images immediately in near-photo resolution using either a PC equipped with TV interface board or a digital camera.
